Growing up in a lively, multigenerational Persian community with two little sisters, life was a whirlwind of family and friends. But in the midst of all the chaos, I lost sight of myself and ignored my needs & sensitivities.
I felt alone, excluded, unworthy, confused, ashamed and was incredibly resentful, reactive & straight up mean to those who loved me most. The turning point came through intense fights and tears with my sisters – I realized being right wasn't worth losing my peace.
Determined to heal, I dove into the messy work of processing old family wounds, tending to my roots. The wakeup call? In the heat of arguments, my sisters hit me with, "How can you help others when you haven't sorted your family stuff?"
The Universe was showing me that it was time to take a leap of faith to submit a two year leave of asbence from my Masters in Counseling Psychology and retreat to the jungles of Costa Rica where I processed individual, collective & ancestral grief, learned to listen to my body, gained perspective, softened my heart, & surrendered into the feminine flow that I had been disconected from, finally embracing a pace of life that respected my own rhythm.
Honestly, I just needed time & space. Nature & authentic connection in conscious community helped me remember I belong & am important.
As I prioritized me & started enjoying the journey with less attachment to external validation, something magical happened.
Our family dynamic changed. We swapped old stories for plant medicine ceremonies and music festivals. We sat down, cleared the air, and started rewriting our story.
Lesson learned: change starts from within. Our internal shifts naturally spill into the outside world. Through sharing stories, acknowledging pain, and embracing our messy truths, we found the simple stuff is what matters – forgiveness, compassion, collaboration, and love.
Today, our family isn't perfect, but it's a living proof that coming back to the heart is what it's all about.
Healing was never about getting rid of the triggers, pain & darkness, it was about feeling, trusting & holding it and letting the transformation happen on all its own.
Because of my devotion to healing & bettering my relationships (I don't recognize myself as I read my journals from just 3 yrs ago, so unaware of my power), I have a huge capacity to give & receive.
I can help you remmeber your light because I helped myself with the help of others remember mine.
Have you heard of the Japanese concept, 'Ikigai'? It means your 'reason for being' and it's composed of four primary elements:
1—what you love (your passion)
2—what the world needs (your mission)
3—what you are good at (your vocation)
4—what you can get paid for (your profession)
To me, this is deep presence. For real, there is nothing I L-O-V-E more than listening & holding space...which means there's nothing I am better at...except maybe for dancing ;)
Truly, I have an obsession with learning through witnessing & reflecting (myself & others) and you, my friend, are a Divine One I would be honoured to witness, reflect & rise with.
